SAP and Teradata have struck a deal that promises to offer their substantial combined customer base a stronger platform for business intelligence (BI) and data analytics.
The ability to run SAP NetWeaver BusinessWarehouse (BW) on top of the Teradata Active Enterprise Data Warehouse means customers will be able to integrate SAP BusinessObjects BI tools seamlessly into the company’s data storage. This allows customers to store all data in a massive Teradata database, and then use the SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator and SAP BusinessObjects BI tools to quickly access and report from the data.
“For companies like ours that leverage massive amounts of information with Teradata and SAP, the promise of tighter integration and closer collaboration is significant," says Joe Zakutney, vice president of Global Applications, The Hershey Company. "Most companies realize that centralized data warehousing is the best approach for BI and analytics, and SAP software running on Teradata is exactly the kind of combination we foresee as a technology advantage in the years ahead.”
As part of the deal, Teradata becomes a reseller of SAP products and a strategic database for the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio. The two companies will also look to expand the partnership to companies that don’t rely on SAP for their core business operations. Teradata and SAP BusinessObjects are both platform-agnostic, and can store and process data from many different sources.
Teradata and SAP did not specify when the integrated capabilities will be available, but industry experts say they expect availability within the next year.
