Migrating to the Newest Version of SAP Lumira

What are the best practices for mapping your migration path from SAP Lumira 1.X and SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio 1.X to the newest version of SAP Lumira?

Abhishek Jain: Hello. Good morning, everyone. Thanks for joining this Q&A session. I am excited to take questions on SAP Lumira migration.

Comment From Ajay Gupta: Is there a way to choose the SAP Lumira 2.0 Import folder for SAP Lumira 1.0 documents instead of the default personal folder? Is there a way to change the preference or configuration file so that I can choose a common network to share files?

Abhishek Jain: Follow these steps:

1. Go to the directory on your machine where you have installed the designer component in SAP Lumira.
2. Open the SapLumiraDesigner.ini file.
3. Enter the following Java VM argument with the required value at the end: Dhilo.document.dir=
4. Choose  File > Save .
5. Restart the designer component in SAP Lumira.

Comment From Christine: Can we have both Design Studio and SAP Lumira installed on our PC? Can we also install these applications on the server?

Abhishek Jain: Yes. These applications will be installed as SAP Lumira, discovery component and SAP Lumira, designer component. You will be able to see the interoperability in them if they are installed together.

Comment From Matt: Do you have any tips or best practices for migrating content from SAP Lumira 1.31 to the discovery component in SAP Lumira 2.0 or 2.1? My initial attempts at migrating reports have resulted in text sizes changing, misalignment of objects, incorrect chart types, and loss of specified chart formatting.

Abhishek Jain: These are rendering and formatting issues that we also encountered mostly in Design Studio. You need to fix this issue in the new version. You need to check for SAPUI5 and SAPUI5 m components in your dashboard. Comment From Matt: Are there any plans to reintroduce the Default Filter Scope story setting? Previously, I could use this to have a selected filter applied to the entire story or page. Now I can use Linked Analysis in SAP Lumira 2.1. However, that requires setting up filters for every single chart that it should apply from and to.

Abhishek Jain: There are filters that can be applied at the level of page for a story. It will be applicable to call the charts in that page. But nothing is available at the story level right now.

Comment From Aleksandr Kostyukov: Hi. Currently on SAP Lumira 1.31 we are using a direct SAP HANA connection to display live data content. Content published to SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 2.0 applications only work with an OLAP-HTTP (Online Analytical Processing-Hypertext Transfer Protocol) connection to SAP HANA, excluding our “direct” approach. Is there any possible way to migrate from a direct connection to SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform via OLAP-HTTP, or do we need to re-create all the apps?

Abhishek Jain: Nope, the applications need to be migrated on a new connection. This was done to remove dependency of client tools on Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connections. SAP is recommending and promoting the use of this connection in newer versions and products only now.

Comment From Nniravv: Do we have a conversion matrix and feature lists from Qlik to SAP Lumira? If a customer wants to migrate, approximately how much is possible? While we see a lot of traction in SAP Lumira, customers are concerned about past investments and the conversion matrix.

Abhishek Jain: This is a separate consulting question as it requires assessing Qlik and what had been built into it.

Comment From Andrey from Severstal: Hello, gurus. Please tell us how to migrate our SAP Lumira 1.x documents that are built on an SAP HANA Live connection?

Abhishek Jain: You need to upgrade your SAP Lumira version to SAP Lumira 1.31, Patch 8 (1.31.8). Then save the document to Save for Migration and open the object in SAP Lumira 2.0.

Comment From Juan: Hello. Do you know if any functionalities could be lost when you migrate from SAP Lumira 1.3x to SAP Lumira 2.x?

Abhishek Jain: We have to reopen the dashboard in SAP Lumira 2.0 and validate dashboards and stories. For incompatible features in dashboard and stories, you will get a message at the time of migration. These incompatible features need to be replaced with the available compatible features in the new version.

Comment From kpai: My application uses the Fragment Gallery and Split Cell Container components from the Design Studio 1.6 Online Composition template. These components aren’t supported in SAP Lumira 2.0, so is there any way to replicate the functionality of the Online Composition template in the designer or discovery components in SAP Lumira?

Abhishek Jain: No, you need to replace them with the available containers in the designer component in SAP Lumira. They are not compatible with SAPUI5 m, and the designer component in SAP Lumira supports objects from SAPUI5 m. Comment From Ajay Gupta: Can SAP Lumira 1.3.x, Design Studio 1.6, and SAP Lumira 2.x desktop clients be installed on the same machine?

Abhishek Jain: Yes. They can exist. However, once objects are converted from Design Studio 1.6 to the designer component in SAP Lumira, they cannot be opened in Design Studio 1.6.

Comment From Hamish: What is the correct process I should follow to migrate a Design Studio 1.x dashboard to SAP Lumira 2.0?

Abhishek Jain: Open the Design Studio application, change the SAPUI5 common rendering to SAPUI5 main rendering mode.

You can do this from Tool tab.

Export the Design Studio application in a zip file.

You can do this from Application Tab > Export.

1. Store the exported zip file locally. You will need a file in SAP Lumira 2.0.
2. Open the designer component in SAP Lumira. Set the preference to SAP BusinessObjects Lumira Document. You can do this from Tools > Preference.
3. Click create document and give the application a name. You can create a document either in local mode or in SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform.
4. Right-click the document you created and then select the Import option.
5. Select the zip file exported from Design Studio.
6. Follow the wizard and do back-end mapping for data source connections.
7. Now synchronize the imported document with SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform.

Comment From Michael Moloney: Is there any documentation for what is new in SAP Lumira 2.1, or will that be available soon?

Comment From kpai: The application I want to migrate from Design Studio 1.6 is based on the Online Composition template, and SAP Lumira 2.0 is missing the two critical components from Online Composition: the Fragment Gallery and Split Cell Container. Is there a way to drag and drop multiple bookmarks on to a single page in SAP Lumira 2.0 in a running application?

Abhishek Jain: Nope, this needs to be rebuilt as it supports SAPUI5 m-compatible components only. Refer to this blog that I referenced in an earlier post:

Abhishek Jain: Yes, with SAPUI5 m, it’s a very good solution for mobile devices.
