The Crucial Role SAP Developers Play in Customer Landscapes

Developers are helping companies transform the way they do business. Every day, they release new apps that help connect people, things, and businesses and help companies operate faster and in a more agile way. This is why I’ve taken to calling developers the new superheroes.

SAP has long seen developers as key enablers of our vision to help businesses run better and make the world a better place. Supporting and working in partnership with developers is a key priority for SAP. And at the heart of our efforts to work with developers is a pursuit of openness.

Openness Is at Our Core

We know that technologists from outside SAP play a crucial role in helping our customers succeed. So, we want to ensure that developers can make the most of our technology and use their existing expertise and skill sets to create groundbreaking new applications.

For this reason, openness is at the core of our strategy. From providing application programming interfaces (APIs) to our incorporation of open-source platform-as-a-service technology from the Cloud Foundry project into SAP Cloud Platform, we are doing everything we can to help non-SAP developers create and innovate with our software.

The result: Developers can achieve more in less time and the cost of development for our customers and partners has been drastically reduced.

We know that technologists from outside SAP play a crucial role in helping our customers succeed. For this reason, openness is at the core of our strategy.

See It in Action

One way to see this openness in action is at SAP TechEd, an event this fall in three locations where the developer community can learn more in person or online about SAP’s innovations for digital transformation, hyperconnectivity, and other important topics for developers.

For more information about the event, see the sidebar, “Welcoming the Developer Community at SAP TechEd.”

Welcoming the Developer Community at SAP TechEd

In this spirit of openness, this year’s SAP TechEd events are both relevant and accessible to the developer community. In addition to sessions designed with developers in mind, there are now additional ways to experience SAP TechEd.

The Discovery Pass is a ticket that enables you to gain an overview of the tools and technologies available from SAP and SAP partners that are driving digital transformation — all at approximately half the cost of a full conference ticket. Discovery Pass holders can access all keynote speeches and strategy talks, as well as a selection of lecture sessions that highlight technologies that fuel digital disruption. In addition, the conference show floor offers a range of SAP and partner exhibits, networking sessions, and self-paced, hands-on tutorials on a variety developer-focused topics. But the events’ developer content is in addition to — not at the expense of — the rest of the SAP TechEd community.

SAP TechEd will continue to offer technology training programs and sessions around topics such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, machine learning, and the Internet of Things (IoT) that are designed for analysts, architects, business intelligence and business process experts, database administrators, system administrators, and more. And a new range of interactive experiences allow interaction with SAP experts to explore your specific business challenges and find out how you can do your job better.

This year’s events take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 25-29; Bangalore, India, October 25-27; and Barcelona, Spain, November 14-16.
