Trends in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Usage – A Benchmark Study
By Robert Holland, VP Research and Publishing, SAPinsider
Even with the extension of mainstream maintenance for existing SAP ERP systems to 2027, the topic of SAP S/4HANA migration is still a critical one for most SAP ERP customers. This is not only because the migration process can require a significant time and resource investment, but also because many customers are now leveraging the evaluation of SAP S/4HANA to make decisions around infrastructure, as well as making broader business transformations as part of their migration. Robert Holland, VP Research and Publishing at SAPinsider, has worked in the SAP space for 13 years and will share insights during his session at our SAPinsider 2020 conference March 17-19 in Las Vegas into what SAP customers are planning around their SAP S/4HANA migration.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, SAPinsider surveyed our community to gain an understanding of their ERP cloud strategy and to understand where SAP S/4HANA fit in the picture. We were most interested in gaining an understanding of the environment in which their current ERP system is deployed, whether they are likely to be using public cloud/hyperscale environments, the current state of their SAP S/4HANA migration, and what is driving their ERP cloud strategy – if they do in fact have an ERP cloud strategy.
Beyond looking into what is driving the ERP cloud strategy of these organizations, SAPinsider asked about the actions or strategies that they are using to address the drivers’ impact on the business, the requirements that they have to support those strategies, and what technologies and systems are in use that enable the business requirements and support the overall strategies that the company is taking. This provided insight into what those who have the most performant ERP systems are doing in terms of SAP S/4HANA deployment, where those systems are deployed, and what is driving those things.
In addition to looking at the key information in the benchmark report, the session will reveal information on how these customers are working with hyperscaler/public cloud providers and the challenges that organizations faced when working in this environment. Specific feedback will also be shared from customers who have hands-on experience in using an ERP system with a hyperscaler.
