SAP Cloud Integration Platform

SAP Cloud Integration Platform: An Overview and Key Considerations

What Is the SAP Cloud Integration Platform?

SAP Cloud Integration Platform is a general term for cloud-based integration solutions available from SAP. Having a Cloud Integration Platform is critical for SAP customers today because, according to SAPinsider research, 90% are doing cloud to on-premise integration and 54% are doing cloud-to-cloud integration. With 88% of SAPinsiders running at least some SAP workloads in the cloud, and that number continuing to grow, the need for an SAP Cloud Integration Platform will only increase.

SAP’s Cloud Integration Platform is the SAP Integration Suite. Renamed from SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite in January 2021, SAP Integration Suite runs as a service in the SAP Business Technology Platform, Cloud Foundry environment and offers capabilities, including cloud integration, API management, and open connectors. Other key SAP partners offering cloud integration platforms include Boomi, IBM, Informatica, Microsoft, and Mulesoft.

Key Considerations for SAPinsiders

  • Integration is a strategic imperative for organizations today. Moving data between systems has always been important for SAP customers, and tools like SAP Process Integration were the first to facilitate this. But with some solutions running on-premise while others are running in the cloud, gaining and having insight about data from all these systems is crucial for organizations looking for a complete view of the enterprise. Craig Stasila, the Global Go-To-Market lead for SAP Integration Suite, explains in this article why integration is more important than ever.
  • Having a cloud-first integration strategy is crucial for organizations that are now running mission-critical systems in the cloud. Enerco, a group of companies active in the energy sector, moved from on-premise integration to SAP Integration Suite to support their adoption of cloud-based applications. Implementing SAP SuccessFactors, SAP Concur, SAP Ariba, and SAP Fieldglass meant that their existing integration solutions no longer met their needs. Going to the cloud was needed to provide the insight that they needed. This interview with Enerco explains how they built their business case as well as key takeaways from the experience.
  • Integration is a complex topic and needs investments of time, technologies, and knowledge to create a successful strategy. SAPinsider’s latest research on integration showed that less than one in 10 respondents said that their integration strategy was completely meeting their organization’s needs. Respondents also indicated that they were typically using more than four integration tools within their organization. With underlying data repositories for enterprise systems moving to cloud-based environments, this complexity is only increasing. Ensuring that you dedicate time and resources to evaluating Cloud Integration Platforms is critical to the future success of an integration strategy.
