Key Takeaways

⇨ Modernising IT systems is essential for businesses to enhance efficiency, security, and scalability while remaining competitive.

⇨ SAPinsider's research indicates that global trends in data integration and cloud adoption highlight the importance of integration across systems, with regional variations noted in the APJ area prioritising enterprise-wide consolidation.

⇨ Caldic's collaboration with Syniti demonstrates the benefits of a unified data governance platform that enhances data quality and supports effective data management, vital for business optimisation and growth.

Businesses must modernise their IT landscape to avoid falling behind competitors, encountering unforeseen technological obstacles and facing misaligned resources. Updating an organisation’s IT systems comes with many benefits like boosting efficiency and security, enhancing customer experience and decision-making, encouraging collaboration and improving scalability.

A research study conducted by SAPinsider highlighted global and regional trends in data integration, cloud adoption and SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) strategies. The study found that the top strategies globally among SAP customers included:

  • Integration across cloud and on-premise systems – 54%
  • Enterprise-wide consolidation solutions – 38%
  • Cost management for data storage and analytics platforms – 36%
  • Enhanced data security and integration capabilities – 35%

In the APJ (Asia-Pacific and Japan) region, however, the priorities shifted slightly:

  • Enterprise-wide consolidation leads – 50%
  • Technologies for faster time-to-value and cost management are equally emphasised – 44%
  • Integration strategies see lower priority (31%), reflecting fewer integrated cloud solutions

SAPinsider’s study found that the APJ region is experiencing rapid cloud growth, driven by subscription-licence solutions and the need to manage costs and integrate data across organisations. It shows a stronger reliance on SAP-centric environments and a lower demand for cloud-to-on-premise integration, reflecting slower adoption of SAP-linked cloud solutions compared to other regions.

Caldic, a global distribution solutions provider for the life and material science markets sought to enhance its data governance and selected Syniti, a provider of enterprise data management capabilities for the project. The company wanted to utilise Syniti’s Knowledge Platform to enhance data quality and build a global master data management (MDM) platform for active data governance.

Syniti’s Knowledge Platform helps organisations overcome enterprise data transformation challenges by combining data expertise, intelligent software and packaged solution accelerators. Its software applies automation and guidance through AI and machine learning technologies for data migration, data quality, analytics, master data management and more.

Lenno Maris, chief data officer, Caldic, said: “As we advance building our global platform and onboarding new companies into our fold, our business required fast and smooth incorporation of data and systems in Caldic’s infrastructure. The end-to-end solution from Syniti provides a Data First approach that guarantees high-quality data is available to help us drive our operations more effectively and efficiently in the future.”

By setting up this platform for its data governance, Caldic got:

  •  A unified end-to-end platform that improves data quality and simplifies enterprise data migrations, data management, governance and analytics capabilities.
  •  A team of data specialists who bring technical, functional and business expertise to deliver high-quality, business optimal data in the context of Caldic’s business.

Commenting on how Syniti’s solution was tailor-made for Caldic, Kevin Campbell, chief executive officer of Syniti, said: “We offered both the technology and expertise Caldic needed to support their data journey. Caldic is regional- and supply chain-driven – so finding optimization was key in terms of in-time delivery, product, storage and cost.
